2005.12.31 Big news! Our baby, Alexander Kaito Benson was born on December 21st. He came five weeks early, but at 5.5 lbs and 19 inches he is relatively large and healthy and is doing fine. Here is a photo of Alex coming home and not looking too pleased about the car seat. Here he is smiling as he sleeps. As you can imagine it is pretty hectic around here, so there isn't much time for combing hair and dressing nicely so here is a picture of my wife and me from last month. Have a happy new year!
2005.12.10
- I just finished reading Sam Harris's book, The End of Faith. I will have to add it to my book list in the Good Things section below. It's one of those books, which after reading, you wish everyone had to read. Required reading for all citizens. And everyone else too.
- I jumped on the Moleskine bandwagon. Hooray! It's an analog PDA. I think the high price will inspire me to consolidate all my usual note scraps. Once you have one in your hands you can start to understand why people are even devoting whole blogs to it.
- Peeking in one of my wife's Japanese magazines the other day, I found some funny pictures. (2005.12.18 Update: Some of you seem to be having trouble understanding what's so funny about this picture. Perhaps I should emphasize that this magazine is a respectable family publication like Parents here in the States. If you still don't get it try browsing some of Engrish.com especially their Rated-R section.) Actually we shouldn't laugh too hard at these T-shirts, at least they didn't get a tattoo.) And why is my wife reading pregnancy magazines anyway? Aha!
2005.10.19 It looks like the old news section for this year is going to be pretty small. I will try to make up for it from now on. The big news here is that I got married! So please stop sending your love letters to me because I will get in trouble. Now that I am no longer busy living my swinging bachelor party life, I will have more time to update this page and add more content. However, I still refuse to make this a real web log or "blog" as I have heard them be called. I agree with Maddox's take on blogs. Actually my wife has two blogs. One is anonymous and the other is secret, but if you bribe me I might tell you the password.
2005.02.22 Sorry I missed the New Year's greeting, but I'm not so late by the lunar calendar. I am tired of reading the hundreds of e-mails complaining about the lack of updates here. I have never claimed this web page was a blog. Blogs require frequent updates, and comments from readers. Sorry folks, this page is a one way street. Anyway, quality is more important than quantity, right? So last week I visited The Gates art installation in Central Park. I actually liked it a lot. They feel like a mix of Japanese noren and torii, but with a European medieval flair. Some people are saying negative things, but it's costing the city nothing, it's bringing in a great deal of tourist money, and it's only up for a few weeks. And if you think the money should go to the homeless, why isn't more of your money going to the homeless? Here are the pictures I took: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
